The Knife is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Trentemøller, Allie X, Jay-Jay Johanson, Sonic Youth and Kate Bush. Those roots explain a lot about how The Knife arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Fever Ray, Austra, iamamiwhoami, Ladytron and Robyn, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into La Roux, Born This Way: The Remix, Elly Jackson, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming and José González, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 37 connections around The Knife, reaching back through Trentemøller and forward to La Roux. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
