◇ image via WikipediaThe Band
The Band is a Americana and Country act. Their catalogue also touches Rock. Their sound grew out of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. II, Ian Tyson, Chuck Willis, Minnie Pearl and Mystery Train. Those roots explain a lot about how The Band arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Van Morrison, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Buffalo Springfield, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Levon, Mississippi, Jackie Greene, Marty Stuart and The Big Pink, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 95 connections around The Band, reaching back through Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. II and forward to Levon.
