Dogstar

Dogstar is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Bon Jovi. Those roots explain a lot about how Dogstar arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Toadies, Candlebox, Collective Soul, Grey Daze and Days of the New, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Rancid and Weezer, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 24 connections around Dogstar, reaching back through David Bowie and forward to Rancid. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.

Background

Dogstar is an American alternative rock band formed in 1991 in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of drummer Robert Mailhouse, bassist Keanu Reeves and guitarist/lead vocalist Bret Domrose, who joined in 1994 and later replacing founding member in 1995 to become the vocalist, which he has been since 1991. They were initially active from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, during which time the band found moderate success and garnered media attention due to Reeves' status as a Hollywood actor.
