Jackie DeShannon

Jackie DeShannon is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Margo Guryan, R. Dean Taylor, Randy Newman, Chip Taylor and Mary Wells. Those roots explain a lot about how Jackie DeShannon arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Dionne Warwick, Sandie Shaw, Herman's Hermits, Clarence "Frogman" Henry and Judy Collins, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Tracey Ullman, The Byrds, Marianne Faithfull, Cher and Delaney Bramlett, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 44 connections around Jackie DeShannon, reaching back through Margo Guryan and forward to Tracey Ullman. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
