◇ image via WikipediaVan Morrison
Van Morrison is a Rock act. Their sound grew out of Bert Berns, Asleep at the Wheel, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Elles Bailey and The Robert Cray Band. Those roots explain a lot about how Van Morrison arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Paul Simon, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton and The Waterboys, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bridgit Mendler, U2, Dan Fogelberg, Borderline and Karl Wallinger, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 136 connections around Van Morrison, reaching back through Bert Berns and forward to Bridgit Mendler.
