Night Ranger is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Russ Ballard, Sly and the Family Stone, Sammy Hagar, ZZ Top and Ozzy Osbourne. Those roots explain a lot about how Night Ranger arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Sammy Hagar, Damn Yankees, Y&T, Great White and Tesla, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Skid Row, Ratt, Warrant, Damn Yankees and Ted Nugent, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 45 connections around Night Ranger, reaching back through Russ Ballard and forward to Skid Row. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
