Marcy Playground is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Van Morrison, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Neil Young and Jimi Hendrix. Those roots explain a lot about how Marcy Playground arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Everclear, Toadies, Cake, The Presidents of the United States of America and Harvey Danger, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sugar Ray and Mark McGrath, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 47 connections around Marcy Playground, reaching back through Van Morrison and forward to Sugar Ray. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
