Murs is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Eligh, DJ Z-Trip, Mr. Lif, Dee-1 and Jonathan Emile. Those roots explain a lot about how Murs arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Brother Ali, Atmosphere, The Grouch, Little Brother and Dilated Peoples, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Ab-Soul, The Hold Steady, ¡Mayday! and Fashawn, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 52 connections around Murs, reaching back through Eligh and forward to Ab-Soul. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
