Aesop Rock is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Fugazi, Artifacts, El-P, Busdriver and RJD2. Those roots explain a lot about how Aesop Rock arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as El-P, Homeboy Sandman, Atmosphere, Busdriver and Eyedea & Abilities, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Slug, El-P, Mr. Lif, Camp Lo and Rob Sonic, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 69 connections around Aesop Rock, reaching back through Fugazi and forward to Slug. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
