El-P is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Shing02, A-Trak, Vast Aire, Camu Tao and Trent Reznor. Those roots explain a lot about how El-P arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Company Flow, Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, Cage and Busdriver, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Jarren Benton, Tame One, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Run the Jewels and Aesop Rock, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 63 connections around El-P, reaching back through Shing02 and forward to Jarren Benton. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
