Ska
Ska

Oingo Boingo is a Ska act. Their sound grew out of Perry Farrell, The Specials, Madness, The Selecter and XTC. Those roots explain a lot about how Oingo Boingo arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Talking Heads, Naked Eyes, The Fixx, Self and Thompson Twins, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Matches, Rory, Brandon Flowers, Synyster Gates and Mr. Bungle, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 35 connections around Oingo Boingo, reaching back through Perry Farrell and forward to The Matches. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
