Seether is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Hellyeah, Flobots, Adelitas Way, Pop Evil and Young Guns. Those roots explain a lot about how Seether arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Three Days Grace, Shinedown, 10 Years, Theory of a Deadman and Saliva, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Three Days Grace, Static-X, Escape the Fate, Bullet for My Valentine and Avenged Sevenfold, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 65 connections around Seether, reaching back through Hellyeah and forward to Three Days Grace. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Seether are a South African rock band founded in 1999 in Pretoria, Gauteng. The band originally performed under the name Saron Gas until 2002 and changed it to Seether to avoid confusion with the deadly chemical known as sarin gas. Lead vocalist and guitarist Shaun Morgan is the band's only remaining original member. Bassist Dale Stewart joined a year after formation, while drummer John Humphrey joined them for the band's second album. Since 2018, the band has been employing second guitarist Corey Lowery. Several notable guitarists such as Corey's brother Clint and Troy McLawhorn have toured or recorded with the band; however, Morgan has recorded most guitar parts for the band's records.
