Stone Sour is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Tesla, Metallica and Avatar. Those roots explain a lot about how Stone Sour arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Corey Taylor, Godsmack, Soil, Alter Bridge and Shinedown, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Soulfly, Bloodsimple, Shadows Fall, Flyleaf and Hollywood Undead, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 55 connections around Stone Sour, reaching back through Soundgarden and forward to Soulfly.
