Sonata Arctica is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Gamma Ray, Delain, Megadeth, Spin Doctors and Stratovarius. Those roots explain a lot about how Sonata Arctica arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Stratovarius, Edguy, Avantasia, Kamelot and Rhapsody, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into DragonForce, Rhapsody, Xandria, Van Canto and Arven, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 48 connections around Sonata Arctica, reaching back through Gamma Ray and forward to DragonForce. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
