◇ image via WikipediaThe Animals
The Animals is a Psychedelic rock and Rhythm and blues act. Their sound grew out of John Lee Hooker, The Yardbirds, Bo Diddley, The Zombies and Barry Mann. Those roots explain a lot about how The Animals arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Eric Burdon & The Animals, The Yardbirds, The Troggs, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Cream, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Monkees, Marie Laforêt, Donovan, Herman's Hermits and Azúcar Moreno, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 81 connections around The Animals, reaching back through John Lee Hooker and forward to The Monkees.
