Jimmy Reed is a Blues act. Their sound grew out of Eddie Taylor, Albert King, Vee-Jay Records, Lonnie Brooks and Luther Dixon. Those roots explain a lot about how Jimmy Reed arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Elmore James, Slim Harpo, John Lee Hooker, Albert King and Bo Diddley, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Doug Sahm, John Primer, Delbert McClinton, Tinsley Ellis and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 71 connections around Jimmy Reed, reaching back through Eddie Taylor and forward to Doug Sahm.
