◇ image via WikipediaThe Police
The Police is a Rock act. Their sound grew out of Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix and Sex Pistols. Those roots explain a lot about how The Police arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tears for Fears, The Cars, Billy Idol, Supertramp and Peter Gabriel, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Rx Bandits, Jonas Brothers, Seal, Planet Funk and Maroon 5, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 143 connections around The Police, reaching back through Stevie Wonder and forward to Rx Bandits. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
