Tonedeff is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Kno. Those roots explain a lot about how Tonedeff arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Kno, Brother Ali, R.A. the Rugged Man, Dilated Peoples and 7L & Esoteric, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Kno, Substantial, Domingo, Gnarls Barkley and Kanye West, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 44 connections around Tonedeff, reaching back through Kno and forward to Kno.
