Busdriver is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of MC Jin, Das Racist, Deerhoof, Prefuse 73 and The Unicorns. Those roots explain a lot about how Busdriver arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Aesop Rock, El-P, Your Old Droog, Atmosphere and Quelle Chris, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Islands, Myka 9, R.A.P. Ferreira, Open Mike Eagle and Aesop Rock, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 48 connections around Busdriver, reaching back through MC Jin and forward to Islands. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
