Zebra Katz is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Leila Arab, Chaos in the CBD, Sega Bodega, Grace Jones and Nina Simone. Those roots explain a lot about how Zebra Katz arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Mykki Blanco, Cakes Da Killa, bbymutha, Princess Nokia and Tkay Maidza, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Gorillaz, Mykki Blanco, Boyfriend, Hervé and Busta Rhymes, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 33 connections around Zebra Katz, reaching back through Leila Arab and forward to Gorillaz.
