◇ image via WikipediaGrace Jones
Grace Jones is a Contemporary R&B and Disco act. Their catalogue also touches House, Pop and Rhythm and blues. Their sound grew out of Sly Dunbar, Atticus Ross, Amanda Lepore, Sly and Robbie and Robert Shakespeare. Those roots explain a lot about how Grace Jones arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Róisín Murphy, Madonna, Eurythmics, Sinéad O'Connor and Cher, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Tom Aspaul, Desireless, Actually, Patty Pravo and That! Feels Good!, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 85 connections around Grace Jones, reaching back through Sly Dunbar and forward to Tom Aspaul. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
