Concrete Blonde is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Sparks, Donovan, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks and Talking Heads. Those roots explain a lot about how Concrete Blonde arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Luscious Jackson, 10,000 Maniacs, Better Than Ezra, Cracker and The Smithereens, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into 4 Non Blondes, Sugarland, Nicole Atkins, Recipe for Hate and The Dead South, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 39 connections around Concrete Blonde, reaching back through Sparks and forward to 4 Non Blondes. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
