Big Country is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of The Waterboys, The Radio One Sessions, Thunderclap Newman, Procol Harum and Gavin Rossdale. Those roots explain a lot about how Big Country arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Alarm, The Fixx, Deacon Blue, Thompson Twins and ABC, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Cult, Dread Zeppelin, Jimmy Gnecco, Kirsty MacColl and The Silencers, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 37 connections around Big Country, reaching back through The Waterboys and forward to The Cult. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
