Dazz Band is a Funk act. Their sound grew out of Charlie Wilson, Earth Wind and Fire, Bar-Kays, Con Funk Shun and S.O.S. Band. Those roots explain a lot about how Dazz Band arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Lakeside, The Gap Band, The Whispers, Rick James and Zapp, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Pharcyde, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 42 connections around Dazz Band, reaching back through Charlie Wilson and forward to The Pharcyde.
