Jadakiss is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Eve, JAY-Z, Ja Rule, Royce da 5'9" and Harry Fraud. Those roots explain a lot about how Jadakiss arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Lox, The Diplomats, Fabolous, Sheek Louch and Lloyd Banks, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into D-Block Europe, Dave East, Andy Mineo, Sheek Louch and Young Thug, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 84 connections around Jadakiss, reaching back through Eve and forward to D-Block Europe. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Jason Terrance Phillips, better known by his stage name Jadakiss, is an American rapper who began his career in the 1990s and formed the hip hop trio the Lox alongside Styles P and Sheek Louch in 1994. The group signed with Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records, an imprint of Arista Records to release their debut studio album, Money, Power & Respect (1998); their second album, We Are the Streets (2000) was released by Ruff Ryders Entertainment, an imprint of Interscope Records. Both peaked within the top five of the Billboard 200 and yielded critical praise; their two subsequent albums, Filthy America... It's Beautiful (2016) and Living Off Xperience (2020) were both released by Jay-Z's Roc Nation and met with continued praise.
