◇ image via WikipediaKurt Cobain
Kurt Cobain is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of The Wall, Michael Stipe, Young Marble Giants, Daniel Johnston and Kim Deal. Those roots explain a lot about how Kurt Cobain arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Nirvana, The Jins, Mudhoney, Alice in Chains and Local H, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Erik Mongrain, Jack White, One Hot Minute, Achille Lauro and Candle in the Wind, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 79 connections around Kurt Cobain, reaching back through The Wall and forward to Erik Mongrain.
