Manchester Orchestra is a Indie rock act. Their sound grew out of The Smiths, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Little Hurricane, The Mowgli's and Michigander. Those roots explain a lot about how Manchester Orchestra arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Bad Books, All Get Out, We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Airborne Toxic Event and Straylight Run, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Grouplove, Right Away, Great Captain!, Cage the Elephant, The Front Bottoms and All Get Out, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 50 connections around Manchester Orchestra, reaching back through The Smiths and forward to Grouplove.
