◇ image via WikipediaNaughty Boy
Naughty Boy is a UK garage act. Their sound grew out of Dancing Machine, The Hoosiers, Five, Wretch 32 and White Town. Those roots explain a lot about how Naughty Boy arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Sam Smith, Jax Jones, Calvin Harris, Sigala and Clean Bandit, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Iveta Mukuchyan, Jasmine Thompson, Emeli Sandé, Leona Lewis and JLS, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 57 connections around Naughty Boy, reaching back through Dancing Machine and forward to Iveta Mukuchyan. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
