Non Phixion is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Fat Joe, 3rd Bass, MC Serch, Killah Priest and The Roots. Those roots explain a lot about how Non Phixion arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ill Bill, La Coka Nostra, Jedi Mind Tricks, Outerspace and Snowgoons, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Cities Aviv, Ill Bill and La Coka Nostra, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 49 connections around Non Phixion, reaching back through Fat Joe and forward to Cities Aviv. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Non Phixion is an American hip-hop group from Brooklyn, New York City. Though the group did not become a household name during their initial period of activity, the Village Voice said Non Phixion was "integral to the timeline of underground hip-hop." The group endured a series of missed opportunities on their way to their only LP release and broke up after their first decade. In the months leading up to the 20th anniversary of their formation, the group reunited and as of 2021 was still active and touring. Their logo is a direct nod to the Canadian metal band Voivod.
