OK Go is a Alternative rock and Rap act. Their sound grew out of Elliott Smith, The Rosebuds, Shudder To Think, The Promise Ring and Sloan. Those roots explain a lot about how OK Go arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as We Are Scientists, Hot Hot Heat, Phantom Planet, Grouplove and Jukebox the Ghost, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Silversun Pickups, Midnight Youth, The All-American Rejects and Samuel, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 53 connections around OK Go, reaching back through Elliott Smith and forward to Silversun Pickups.
