Joywave is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Bleachers, MisterWives, Tears for Fears, LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip. Those roots explain a lot about how Joywave arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Sir Sly, Battle Tapes, Foreign Air, Brick+Mortar and Two Door Cinema Club, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME, Bishop Briggs, Sir Sly, Little Image and Big Data, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 47 connections around Joywave, reaching back through Bleachers and forward to I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
