Arcade Fire is a Indie rock act. Their sound grew out of Mavis Staples, Oh, Inverted World, Wolf Parade, Clinic and The Elephant 6 Recording Company. Those roots explain a lot about how Arcade Fire arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The War on Drugs, The Killers, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, TV on the Radio and Broken Social Scene, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Vampire Weekend, Noah and the Whale, Black Country, New Road, Reeve Carney and Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 78 connections around Arcade Fire, reaching back through Mavis Staples and forward to Vampire Weekend.
