Phantom Planet is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of American Hi-Fi, The Rolling Stones, Guns N' Roses, Sting and Incubus. Those roots explain a lot about how Phantom Planet arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Hot Hot Heat, The Format, OK Go, Guster and The Like, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Coconut Records, The Young Veins, The Like, Maroon 5 and Miniature Tigers, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 67 connections around Phantom Planet, reaching back through American Hi-Fi and forward to Coconut Records. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
