◇ image via WikipediaOpeth
Opeth is a Death metal and Progressive rock act. Their sound grew out of Between the Buried and Me, Martin Mendez, Demonic Resurrection, Illud Divinum Insanus and Wishbone Ash. Those roots explain a lot about how Opeth arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Gojira, Dream Theater, Soen, Haken and Caligula's Horse, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Jinjer, Baroness, Diablo, Evile and Strapping Young Lad, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 55 connections around Opeth, reaching back through Between the Buried and Me and forward to Jinjer.
