The The

Punk rock
Punk rockRap

The The is a Punk rock and Rap act. Their sound grew out of This Heat, Scritti Politti, Marc Almond, Orange Juice and Squeeze. Those roots explain a lot about how The The arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Ultravox, Public Image Ltd., Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Talking Heads, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Weathermen, Virgin Prunes, Bark Psychosis, Daisy Dares You and Bran Van 3000, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around The The, reaching back through This Heat and forward to The Weathermen. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
