Best Coast is a Indie rock act. Their sound grew out of The Go! Team, The Beach Boys, Vivian Girls, Loretta Lynn and Dusty Springfield. Those roots explain a lot about how Best Coast arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Surfer Blood, Girls, Camera Obscura, Frankie Cosmos and Cults, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into No Joy, Night Time, My Time, Vivian Girls, Dentist and Black Kray, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 45 connections around Best Coast, reaching back through The Go! Team and forward to No Joy.
