Cold War Kids is a Indie rock act. Their sound grew out of Billie Holiday, Bishop Briggs, Joywave, In the Valley Below and Nick Waterhouse. Those roots explain a lot about how Cold War Kids arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Atlas Genius, Grouplove, The Bravery, The Airborne Toxic Event and Broken Bells, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Colony House, Delta Spirit, Middle Kids, The Dead South and The Pinker Tones, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 48 connections around Cold War Kids, reaching back through Billie Holiday and forward to Colony House.
