◇ image via WikipediaNico
Nico is a Rock act. Their sound grew out of Tia Blake, Verve Records, Akcent, Another Side of Bob Dylan and Kadavar. Those roots explain a lot about how Nico arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as John Cale, Joni Mitchell, Tim Buckley, Julia Holter and PJ Harvey, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Melanie, Primal Scream, Throbbing Gristle, Bat for Lashes and Peter Christopherson, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 69 connections around Nico, reaching back through Tia Blake and forward to Melanie. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
