The Jesus and Mary Chain is a Indie rock and Rap act. Their sound grew out of Love, Lee Hazlewood, Tago Mago, The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators and Actress. Those roots explain a lot about how The Jesus and Mary Chain arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ride, Chapterhouse, Swervedriver, Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Sad Day For Puppets, Primal Scream, Drugstore, Nine Inch Nails and The Stone Roses, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 88 connections around The Jesus and Mary Chain, reaching back through Love and forward to Sad Day For Puppets.
