SZA is a Contemporary R&B and Hip hop act. Their catalogue also touches Pop. Their sound grew out of Awkwafina, bbymutha, Billy Ray Cyrus, Willow Smith and Lizzo. Those roots explain a lot about how SZA arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Jhené Aiko, Ravyn Lenae, Mariah the Scientist, Beyoncé and Chlöe, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Nicki Minaj, Denise Julia, Jolianne, whatmore and D4vd, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 82 connections around SZA, reaching back through Awkwafina and forward to Nicki Minaj. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
