Tems is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Aṣa, Naomi Sharon, Burna Boy, Lauryn Hill and Adele. Those roots explain a lot about how Tems arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Omah Lay, Fireboy DML and Asake, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Wizkid, Justin Bieber, Drake, Future and Rihanna, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 60 connections around Tems, reaching back through Aṣa and forward to Wizkid. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
