◇ image via WikipediaThe Weeknd
The Weeknd is a Electropop and Pop act. Their sound grew out of Prince, R. Kelly, Cirkut, Shenseea and The Veldt. Those roots explain a lot about how The Weeknd arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Tory Lanez, Drake, Black Atlass, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Frank Ocean, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Daniel Seavey, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, Chike, Andrew Huang and Midnight Rain, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 135 connections around The Weeknd, reaching back through Prince and forward to Daniel Seavey. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
