The Only Ones

Punk rock
Punk rock

The Only Ones is a Punk rock act. Their sound grew out of Johnny Kidd & The Pirates, 999, The Who, Duran Duran and Talk Talk. Those roots explain a lot about how The Only Ones arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Undertones, The Soft Boys, The Adverts, The Jam and Buzzcocks, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Manic Street Preachers, Black Market Karma, Breathless, The Sisters of Mercy and Marianne Faithfull, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 43 connections around The Only Ones, reaching back through Johnny Kidd & The Pirates and forward to Manic Street Preachers. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
