◇ image via WikipediaThe Replacements
The Replacements is a Hardcore punk and Punk rock act. Their catalogue also touches Rap. Their sound grew out of The Jam, Hüsker Dü, The Only Ones, New York Dolls and Mission of Burma. Those roots explain a lot about how The Replacements arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Paul Westerberg, Mission of Burma, Minutemen, Wire and Superchunk, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Midtown, The All-American Rejects, Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day and The Ataris, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 88 connections around The Replacements, reaching back through The Jam and forward to Midtown. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
