Damageplan is an act on the Starverb influence map. Their sound grew out of Pantera and Zakk Wylde. Those roots explain a lot about how Damageplan arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, Hellyeah, Machine Head and Killer Be Killed, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Hellyeah, Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 30 connections around Damageplan, reaching back through Pantera and forward to Hellyeah. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
Background
Damageplan was an American heavy metal band from Dallas, Texas, active between 2003 and 2004. Following the demise of their previous group Pantera, brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott wanted to start a new band. The pair recruited former Halford guitarist Patrick Lachman on vocals, and later Bob Zilla on bass. Damageplan released New Found Power, their only album, in February 2004. New Found Power debuted at number 38 on the Billboard 200, selling 44,676 copies in its first week.
