◇ image via WikipediaVampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Ratatat, Mahogany, Steve Lacy and Ra Ra Riot. Those roots explain a lot about how Vampire Weekend arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Rostam, Arcade Fire, Ra Ra Riot, Grouplove and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into The Very Best, Charli XCX, Remo Drive, The Academic and The Griswolds, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 70 connections around Vampire Weekend, reaching back through Christone "Kingfish" Ingram and forward to The Very Best.
