◇ image via WikipediaBright Eyes
Bright Eyes is a Indie rock and Reggae act. Their sound grew out of Mark Linkous, Daniel Johnston, Rachael Yamagata, Vic Chesnutt and M. Ward. Those roots explain a lot about how Bright Eyes arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Good Life, Cursive, Better Oblivion Community Center, Straylight Run and The Felice Brothers, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Phoebe Bridgers, The Faint, The Mountain Goats, First Aid Kit and Tortoise, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 66 connections around Bright Eyes, reaching back through Mark Linkous and forward to Phoebe Bridgers.
