Morrissey is a Indie rock and Rap act. Their sound grew out of Thelma Houston, Jerry Finn, Jesse Tobias, Stephen Street and Guillemots. Those roots explain a lot about how Morrissey arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as The Smiths, The Housemartins, The Cure, James and The Wedding Present, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Brigitte Calls Me Baby, Brett Anderson, Suck It and See, Sanctuary Records and Paul Smith, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 97 connections around Morrissey, reaching back through Thelma Houston and forward to Brigitte Calls Me Baby. Follow any of those threads to keep travelling the influence between bands and genres on Starverb.
