Mogwai is a Indie rock and Post-rock act. Their catalogue also touches Rap. Their sound grew out of Long Fin Killie, The Delgados, The Telescopes, Lloyd Cole and Washington Phillips. Those roots explain a lot about how Mogwai arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as Explosions in the Sky, Mono, Caspian, Do Make Say Think and pg.lost, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Bosse-de-Nage, Deafheaven, Svalbard, Maybeshewill and Oceansize, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 74 connections around Mogwai, reaching back through Long Fin Killie and forward to Bosse-de-Nage.
