◇ image via WikipediaINXS
INXS is a Rap act. Their sound grew out of Terence Trent D'Arby, The Kinks, Hall & Oates, The Go-Go's and Men at Work. Those roots explain a lot about how INXS arrange songs and choose their tones. They run in the same orbit as U2, Divinyls, Australian Crawl, The Cars and Eurythmics, sharing audiences, venues and reference points rather than a straight line of influence. Their influence carried into Smash Mouth, Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, Divinyls and The Easybeats, where the same ideas turn up rearranged for a later generation. Altogether the chart holds 86 connections around INXS, reaching back through Terence Trent D'Arby and forward to Smash Mouth.
